The Giant Red Widowmaker was a nightmarish predator of the Wildlands, reaching lengths of up to 10 feet. Its glossy, pitch-black exoskeleton shimmered faintly in the moonlight, punctuated by red fangs and vivid red spots along its legs and abdomen that seemed to glow like embers. The Giant Red Reclus dwelled high in the canopies of ancient forests, weaving colossal, intricate webs capable of snaring creatures as large as a stag.
Its preferred hunting method was ambush. Perched silently above well-worn trails, it would wait for unsuspecting prey to pass beneath before dropping swiftly, ensnaring its victims with sticky silk threads strong enough to bind a grown man. Its webs, laced with a subtle pheromone-based lure, could attract prey over great distances.
The Giant Red Widowmaker’s venom was its most feared weapon. Much like that of its smaller kin, the venom caused excruciating pain and paralysis. Victims succumbed quickly, their muscles locking as the spider injected digestive enzymes, liquefying its prey’s insides for easy consumption.
Despite its terrifying presence, the Giant Red Widowmaker avoided regions too cold or dry, favoring the humid forests where its prey was plentiful. Tales of these spiders often deterred even the most seasoned adventurers from venturing deep into Wildlands’ shadowy woods.
