The Ravan Birchal were a sinister subrace of bird-like humanoids, known for their vodoo magic and brooding temperament. They once spread across various regions of the Wildlands, their dark forms occupying the desolate forests, high deserts, and windswept plains. However, the icy reaches of the frozen north remained impenetrable to them, for they could not endure such cold. It was said that the freezing winds would drain their lifeforce, forcing them to avoid these regions entirely.
The Ravan were notorious for their darker outlook on life. Their dark hearts often led them to ally with the most wicked of factions, where treachery and cruelty thrived. They found little value in kindness or mercy, traits they saw as weaknesses to be exploited.
Description
In terms of body type, the Ravan resembled humans, but their eerie, hybrid appearance set them apart. Their heads were a disturbing blend of human and bird, with sharp, beak-like noses and predatory eyes that seemed to pierce the soul. Dark feathers crowned their heads, shoulders, and arms, giving them a menacing silhouette. Their skin was as black as a starless night, and their feathers gleamed with an oily sheen. Their eyes, though, were perhaps the most unsettling feature—vivid yellow or a striking ochre, they glowed with a cruel, calculating intelligence that made them even more fearsome.

Gliding
Though the Ravan could not truly fly like the great birds of the sky, they possessed the ability to glide for short distances. With a powerful leap and the spread of their feathered arms, they could catch the wind, soaring silently over forest canopies or ambushing prey from above. While limited in range, their gliding abilities made them formidable in combat, able to traverse difficult terrain with swift and silent ease.
Keen Senses & Tracking
Gifted with extraordinary senses, the Ravan excelled at perceiving their surroundings in ways that few others could match. Their keen eyesight allowed them to spot prey or enemies from great distances, and their heightened perception made them master trackers. Even the faintest trail left by a creature would not escape their notice, making them relentless hunters. Their acute hearing also made them nearly impossible to ambush, as they could detect the slightest rustling of leaves or the quietest footstep in the underbrush.
History
The origins of the Ravan stretched back into the forgotten mists of time. In the ruins near present-day Blackwarg, ancient skeletons of a more savage, animalistic form of this race had been unearthed. These skeletal remains told a tale of their primal past—long before civilization shaped them into the cunning creatures they became. Scholars and sages believed the Ravan existed even before the second era of Origins, their ancestors roaming the Wildlands as savage beasts.
It was said in the ancient tomes of the wise that the Ravan, like many of the bestial races, had been created by the animal gods of Animas, deities of wild power and untamed nature. These gods had shaped the Ravan to be predators, ruling over the skies and stalking the lands with deadly precision. Whether blessed or cursed by these gods, the Ravan Birchal carried their legacy into the modern age, feared by many and respected by few.
