Shadow Magic embodied the dark arts of necromancy and illusion, practiced chiefly by sorcerers across the Wildlands. This mysterious craft held the power to manipulate darkness itself, a force feared deeply by humankind and whispered of in tales. A true master of Shadow Magic wielded control over the shadowed elements of the Grey Weave, using its eldritch threads to bend reality, terrify the unwary, and commune with the hidden.
Origins
The origins of Shadow Magic were shrouded in mystery, though it was widely believed to have first emerged in the subterranean depths of the Everdeep, an ancient realm below present-day central T’ssara. There, dark practitioners such as the Haxan Valcromin and Skel harnessed the magic for the first time, crafting potent spells in the underground shadows. The Haxan Valcromin, elusive beings bound to the night, were said to have brought the art to perfection, passing their secrets to the few worthy enough to study under their guidance. Over time, the practice spread from the Everdeep to the surface, becoming one of the most widely used forms of arcana in the Wildlands, often practiced in secrecy or revered by those in covens and cults devoted to darker powers.

Necromancy & Illusion
Every spell rooted in Shadow Magic stemmed from necromancy, illusion, or a mixture of the two. Necromancy allowed practitioners to manipulate life and death, drawing the last breath from living creatures or reanimating those who had passed beyond the veil. Illusion, on the other hand, granted them the power to distort reality, conjuring terrifying visions or bending light to create unseen passageways. Through Shadow Magic, these two elements were interwoven, forming spells that could pull the living into ghostly nightmares or raise spectral horrors to serve their master.
Shadow Magic Spells
Shadow Magic spells were infamous across Eos, each one bearing an unsettling reputation:
Necrotic Fire
A dark flame that consumed life energy, leaving its victims with a haunting chill. This flame could not be extinguished by water or wind, as it burned the spirit rather than the flesh.
Wretched Affliction
A curse that drained vitality over time, leaving its target frail and susceptible to dark influences. The afflicted felt their life slipping away, one heartbeat at a time.
Shadow Wreath
Enveloped the caster in a cloak of shadows, rendering them nearly invisible in dim light. It also created a sense of dread in any who came near, sapping their will to fight.
Wolderak’s Nightmare
Named after the first mage to survive the Everdeep, this spell unleashed haunting visions in the minds of enemies, leaving them reeling in fear or unable to tell reality from illusion.
Night Sickles
Shadowy, crescent-shaped blades formed in the air, controlled by the caster’s thoughts. They were sharp enough to cut through metal and brought a sense of despair to those who beheld them.
Aura of Agony
Surrounding the caster in a field of dark energy, this spell weakened and burned any enemies who dared to approach, the pain seeping into their very bones.
Shadow Dragon’s Breath
Perhaps the most feared of Shadow Magic spells, this conjured the breath of an ancient, unseen dragon. A searing, smoky miasma spewed forth, dissolving anything it touched with dark energy and fearsome might.
Shadow Magic was whispered about in fear and fascination. Those who wielded it walked a fine line, for while it offered great power, the magic often drew its practitioners down paths of isolation, sacrifice, and corruption.
